Depending on the manufacturer of the defibrillator, either a power button needs to be pressed, or it will operate as soon as you open the lid.
Defibrillators have a set of pads which need replacing after the manufacturer’s expiry date, which can be between two and five years. They also need replacing after each use. This makes sure the pads have enough adhesive stick to make good contact with the patient.
They are locked to keep them secure and able to operate to their potential when needed.
Apart from the defibrillator, most cabinets have a small heater, to ensure the defibs are kept at the optimal temperature and have an internal light to illuminate the cabinet.
A code will be provided by the ambulance service call handler to unlock the door.
The defibrillator hangs inside the cabinet allowing quick and easy removal when needed. It comes ready for use with everything needed. Simply turning it on allows it to be used within seconds.
Yes, we run a series of full regulated courses, including how to perform CPR, how to use a defibrillator, first aid and mental health first aid. These courses can be held in our classroom in Roche, a local venue or workplace.
We can also hold sessions within the local community, upon request or the installation of a community defibrillator. Some are free to attend.

Yes, anyone can use a defibrillator. You don’t need training. They come with clear, step-by-step vocal instructions.
The device is beeping due to a fault. This could be anything from the battery needing to be replaced, the pads expiring or perhaps the device is too cold. Some faults can be fixed by replacing parts, others need the defibrillator to be sent to the manufacturer.
