Milestone reached- 250th defibrillator installed by Duchy Defibrillators

Another life-saving defibrillator has been installed in Newquay today – the milestone 250th to be fitted by Duchy Defibrillators.

The new defibrillator, located on the bandstand at Killacourt and paid for by Newquay Town Council, was installed on the landmark 75th anniversary of the NHS.

A defibrillator is a portable medical device used to provide a high energy electric shock to someone in cardiac arrest – and can be used by anyone in an emergency.

Alan Odgers, founder of Duchy Defibrillators, which supplies, installs, and monitors hundreds of defibs across Devon and Cornwall, said: “It seems entirely fitting to have installed our 250th defibrillator, and hit this milestone, on the same day as we celebrate the NHS turning 75. Both play a vital part in saving lives.

“This defibrillator will without a doubt benefit the local community, as well as visitors to Newquay. They are a priceless piece of kit that anyone can use – if there is one nearby.

“We are extremely proud to have played a part in making that happen. Every second counts when responding to a sudden cardiac arrest.”

Andy Hannan, chair of the environment and facilities committee at Newquay Town Council, said: “I am pleased that our commissioning of new defibrillators at the Killacourt and Porth have allowed us to be part of such a momentous milestone for Duchy Defibrillators.

“To be the owners of the 250th commission on the 75th anniversary of the NHS is something to celebrate.

“Although I hope no one ever needs to use the unit, I am sure that it’s presence will be a great reassurance to both our residents and visitors, something that is

especially important in such a busy tourist town. Good luck to you all with the next 250 installations.”
